Lies We Tell Our Parents

THE GROOVY DOCTOR

When I was fifteen, I started dating this guy, and I decided it was time to lose my virginity. Well, as is common in such circumstances, I had a close scare with pregnancy!  So I told my mom I needed to go to the doctor's because there was something wrong with my period, since I was going to have a pelvic exam, she left the room. After the exam I asked my very groovy doctor if she could prescribe me some birth control pills, she happily complied when I explained what had almost happened!  I then left to go back to the waiting room to wait for the doctor to give me my scripts. She came in and explained the need for an antibiotic, and then said "I am also going to give you a script for that birth control we talked about". My mom blew up! She started screaming at me in the doctors office.  I quickly made up something about how the pill was supposed to make my period lighter and keep me safe from some imaginary disease I was supposedly prone to!  Mom just looked at the doctor and I crossed my fingers. I need not have worried however, as I said, I had a very groovy doctor, she just smiled at me and said "that's right"!
